Hooray for Hollywood

I just found a great article on WalletPop entitled Tinseltown’s Thriftiest Stars. It lists 12 of the most thrifty celebs (most are A-list, you’ll be surprised) and their reasons for being frugal. It even shares some of their penny pinching secrets! For example, Tyra Banks stocks up on hotel soap!
Get rid of credit card debt… the right way!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting David Bach- the author of many best selling financial books (the Finish Rich series and the Automatic Millionaire series). David was a guest speaker in one of my graduate school classes and was the most knowledgeable, captivating, and motivating speaker I’ve ever seen. The day after listening to his financial-advice-filled speech, I increased my 401K contribution! He’s that convincing!
I was just searching the pages of David’s website and I came across a fantastic (and free) financial tool that I’d like to share with all of you- the DOLP (Dead On Last Payment) calculator. This calculator will tell you the most efficient way to pay off your credit card debt. It is simple to use and will help you save on your interest payments!
‘Tis the (tax) season

Twas the night before 4/15
When all through the house
We thought about new jeans and that pretty new blouse
The returns will be placed in the mail with care
In hopes that Uncle Sam’s check soon would be there
Sound familiar? Want more than just one new blouse?
Check out this collection of great articles, entitled Money For Life: 2010 Tax Guide, from Forbes.com.

LHJ.com, one of our websites here at Meredith, posted a great article for recessionistas or anyone else looking to save money without sacrificing their look! The article is entitled 4 Ways to Spend Less at the Salon and it is packed with money-saving info. For example, did you know that most salons offer free bang trims between hair cuts?
A quick how-to on bargaining

Getting the right price while shopping may very well be a matter of using the correct wording! Family Circle, one of our websites here at Meredith, posted a great article entitled Bargaining 101: How to Negotiate a Better Price. This article gives advice on what to say to a sales person when you’re looking for a better deal. An example of this would be casually mentioning that you’d be happy to refer your friends if he/she is able to lower the price to where you need it.

Never be bothered by telemarketers again!
posted by CaliCat :: posted 2/17, 5:05 pm
Cell phone numbers go public this month and telemarketers will get their hands on them. This means that you’ll be receiving pesky (and costly) sales calls. Yes, that’s right- you’re charged for their sales calls!
At Shop On Buy, we believe in keeping our phone bills low. We also believe that you should never be bothered by a telemarketer at dinner time again!
That’s why today’s post is about the National Do-Not-Call Registry. If you call 888-382-1222 and follow the prompts, your number will be blocked from telemarketers for 5 years! And it only takes about 30 seconds!
Note: you must call from the cell phone that you are looking to block.

It’s that time of year again- when high school seniors rejoice over college acceptance letters and parents, while proud, are hit with the reality of the dreaded, fast approaching college tuition bills. That’s why I thought I’d share this great article entitled The Best Websites for Planning for College from our very own Parents.com. On these websites you’ll find helpful information on 529 plans, calculators, planning tools and more!
Get a human on the phone when you dial 800#s!
posted by CaliCat :: posted 2/09, 11:09 pm
We love 800 #s because they’re free. But, I’m sure you’ll agree that those automated service prompts can get really annoying and time consuming! Well, today we found an awesome website, gethuman.com, that helps you connect to a receptionist immediately after calling a variety of different 800 #s.
For example:
Fed Ex
800-463-3339
Say “representative” at prompts; ignore messages
Happy dialing!
