Get the Look: A Geometric Headboard
Written on May 14, 2013 at 4:29 pm , by Nicole Balch
I’ve been noticing a return to traditional (even ornate) forms lately, but reinterpreted in a more modern way. Chippendale furniture is one example. It can be picked up at flea markets and in antique shops, but I’ve also spotted some variations on the look from big-box retailers.
Here’s a bedroom sporting the look with a Chippendale headboard. This one is likely a vintage find that was painted.

You can get a similar look with white walls and a bed featuring layered linens and a geometric headboard, like the one below.

- Morocco Headboard
- Jenny Stripe Organic Sheets
- Washed Linen Bedding
- Jacquard Leaf Bedding
- Tahla Euro Sham
- Light Blue Ceramic Table Lamp
- Mattress Ticking Cotton Rug
- Chic Dresser

Get the Look: Expedit Chic
Written on April 30, 2013 at 5:51 pm , by Nicole Balch
The IKEA Expedit shelving unit can probably be considered a modern classic by now, and I continue to see them pop up all over the place. It takes a bit of ingenuity to get one to catch your eye, but that’s what this home office has going for it in spades.
I would not have thought of putting swing-arm sconces above a big shelving unit. Would you? But it works, and it looks fantastic! The rest of the space supports the design too, elevating a fairly standard big box item into something wonderful. Here’s how to achieve a similar look.

- Cassidy Indigo Ikat Armless Chair
- Classic Gray Binders
- Knipsa Seagrass Basket
- Braided Storage Basket with Lid
- Brass Swing-Arm Sconce
- Expedit Shelving Unit
- Gramercy Mirrored Desk
- Merie Table Lamp

Antique furniture, whether authentic or reproduced, can be beautiful. It can also be stuffy though, which is why the jolt of pink and green paired with the Louis XVI settee and tables above is so refreshing. Why not have a little fun with your furniture, right?
You can achieve a similar look with the items below.

- Large Gold Mirror
- Triple Gourd Ceramic Table Lamp
- Paige Chairside Table
- Pink and Green fabrics for pillows and striped curtains
- Pink Damask Fabric

Get the Look: Citron Kitchen
Written on March 19, 2013 at 10:13 pm , by Nicole Balch
All-white kitchens are beautiful, but often they’re even better with a little strategic color.
This kitchen sings with the addition of citron in the fabric, accessories, and painted center island. Below are some of the key items instrumental to pulling off the look in an otherwise white and neutral kitchen.

- Blockade Blossom Dandelion Heirloom Fabric
- Clemson Pendant
- Spicy Banana Pepper Paint
- Emeco Navy Stool
- Glass Canisters
- Le Creuset French Oven
- Latte Bowls
- Raw Wood Plank Cutting/Serving Board

The wallpaper in the bathroom above is Asuka, by Osborne and Little, but it was either a custom color or one that has been discontinued. I’ve found another great stand-in from the same manufacturer though, along with everything else you need to pull of the look of this sweet bathroom.

- Marble Hex Tile
- Glossy White Subway Tile
- Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume (looks so pretty sitting out!)
- Polished Nickel Soho Sconce
- Gramercy Single Basin Sink Washstand
- Eranthe Floral Wallpaper by Osborne and Little
